Tips & Tricks

On holiday!

Tip #1

Plan before your departure: where can I charge along the way?

To plan your charging stops along the road, it's best to use your car's own navigation. That way, the car itself can calculate which stops are needed depending on your car's battery level. Some cars will even adjust the temperature of their battery for a quick charge, so that the charging process can start immediately at the highest possible charging capacity.

Tip #2

Book a charging station at your holiday destination

Charging at hotels is in practice easier thought than done. Because, especially in peak season, a hotel with charging stations almost certainly receives more people with EVs than there are charging points. With shared charging points (such as at hotels), the golden rule applies: ‘car charged, free up space!’

Tip #3

Avoid unnecessary kilos

When travelling, try to limit your luggage as much as possible and do not leave heavy items in the car that you do not need right away, such as work materials or sports equipment. After all, every kilogram you have to lug around costs energy and thus driving range.

Tip #4

Avoid a cold battery

A battery functions best between about 15 and 25°C. At lower temperatures, the available capacity will decrease significantly and you will therefore not be able to drive as far on one battery charge. Ideally, you should park your EV somewhere sheltered, preferably in a garage where you can also charge the battery. Highly recommended: set the battery preheat before departure!

Tip #5

Bring the right charging card(s)

Abroad, you sometimes need local passes for local charging stations. Along the motorways, however, you can gradually get everywhere. Apps such as Electromaps and Chargemap often offer a solution to check which charge card you can use where. In Austria, Smatrics helps you on your way, in Spain it is Electromaps.
